South African Express offers e-ticketing on all its domestic routes. Electronic ticketing provides customer benefits including improved security (ticket cannot be lost or stolen) and greater convenience (passenger never have to collect tickets whilst changes are easier to make). An electronic ticket may be booked via a travel agent or by logging on to our website, www.flysax.com (where you also gain access to our lowest fares) or by phoning our call center (0861 606 606) or visiting one of our ticket stations. Once you have made your reservation, you may proceed directly to check-in on the day of your trip, quote your reference number and provide a positive form of identification in order to receive your boarding pass. E-ticketing: saving your time and money.

The passenger shall arrive at the South African Express check-in location and boarding gate sufficiently in advance of flight departure to permit completion of any government formalities and departure procedures and, in any event, not later than the time indicated by the Carrier. If the passenger fails to arrive on time at check-in location or appears improperly documented and not ready to travel, the Carrier may cancel the space reserved for the passenger and will not delay the flight. At South African national airports, passengers are required to present themselves and the baggage for check-in formalities as reflected below:

• All other Regional Flights – 2 and a half hours before departure of flight.
• All other Domestic Flights – 1 and a half hours before departure of flight.

According to the General Conditions of Carriage, please be thoughtful towards your fellow passengers and allow plenty of time before your flights. Remember if you are at a boarding gate less than fifteen (15) minutes before departure, the flight will actually depart without you. Our views on time departure are intense, for the benefit of all our clients. South African Express has one of the best on time departure records in the world and specifically promotes an on-time culture to its entire staff.

The Carrier is not liable to the passenger for loss or expense due to the passenger’s failure to comply with the provisions of this article.

Fast Check is a self help check-in facility available at O.R. Tambo, Cape Town and Durban International Airports. These kiosks are located in the domestic departure halls.

Passengers traveling with hand baggage only make use of this facility.

Be advised that South African Revenue Service has advised that goods purchased by passengers entering South Africa from abroad are exempt from duty up a maximum of ZAR 3000.00 of proven value. (Excluding duty free purchases).

South African Express may refuse carriage of any passenger or passenger’s baggage for reasons of safety or if, in the exercise of its reasonable discretion it is determined that:-

1. Such action is necessary in order to comply with any applicable laws, regulations or orders of any state or country to be flown from, into or over; or
2. The conduct, age or mental or physical state of the passenger is such as to require special assistance of the Carrier; or
3. Cause discomfort or make himself or herself objectionable to other passenger; or
4. Involve hazard or risk to himself or herself or to the other passenger to property;
5. Such action is necessary because the passenger has failed to observe the instructions of the Carrier; or
6. The passenger has refused to submit to a security check; or
7. The ticket presented by the passenger has been reported as being lost or stolen; acquired unlawfully or is counterfeit ticket, or the passenger does not appear to be properly documented.

For international travel, in terms of government regulations applicable to the country of transit/destination/return, all passengers must be in possession of:

1. A valid (return) air ticket;
2. Passport documentation;
3. Visa (if required) and
4. Health documentation (if required)

Failure to comply with any of the above provisions may result in the passenger being denied during check-in.

Transit passengers can utilise the transit area provided that they hold confirmed onward tickets. The Transit Hotel in Johannesburg must be confirmed in advance should the transfer not be on the same day. Transit visas should be obtained if necessary. Passports of all non-residents must contain at least 1 unused visa page for entry/departure endorsements.

• Children and infants paying at least 50% of the adult fare are entitled to the same allowance as adults.
• Infants not entitled to a seat shall only be permitted 10kg (22lb) and one collapsible buggy.

• In addition to the checked baggage allowance, each passenger may carry without additional charges hand baggage suitable for placement in the closed overhead rack or under the passenger’s seat with maximum dimensions specified by carrier subject to space availability.
• Maximum dimensions for one piece 55x40x20cm (22x15x8inches), maximum weight 8kg (8lb), e.g. Brief case, boardcase, travel bag, attaché case. The size of one carry on item shall not exceed the overall dimensions of 115cm (45inches)
• or one foldable garment bag (max. dimensions 57x54x15cm / 22x21x6inches).

In terms of International Civil Aviation Security Regulations, firearms, knives, sharp objects and or any items that may be construed as a dangerous item, whether of metal or other material, and some sporting goods must be packed in checked baggage, they cannot be carried in the cabin baggage or on person. These items include (but are not limited to) knives and knife-like objects, box cutters, corkscrews with blades, straight razor, long metal nail files, scissors with pointed tips, dangerous good (hazardous materials unless approved), tradesmen’s tools, hypodermic needles (unless required for medical reasons), knitting needles, other sharp pointed/ penetrating objects and sporting goods such as bats, bows, and arrows, cues, darts, golf clubs and sling shots (catapults), material art devices, real /toy/replica weapons (whether or plastic or metal). Most items listed may be carried in your checked baggage, subjected to Dangerous Goods Regulations. Firearms, sporting weapons and or declares security items of high value may be tendered to the appropriate firearm handling counters for safe handling. Any of these items not declared to the airline or identified to cabin baggage at the security screening points will be confiscated and not returned. South African Express has no liability what so ever regarding the loss of the above mentioned articles. Passengers requiring the use of medical syringes in flight, such as diabetic and other passengers with documented proof of medical need must ensure that it is professionally packed and labelled. If not, the medication will be removed.
